The genesis of the GOA vision was a physician-scientist who witnessed firsthand what severe alcohol intoxication and poisoning does to patients. More than a decade of intensive research and development followed: sophisticated protein engineering, formulation and manufacturing development, and a broad preclinical program that included studies using human tissue and rodent and porcine models.
That work has established the scientific, regulatory and manufacturing foundation to advance GOA26 toward clinical studies, and brought together a multidisciplinary team spanning drug development, emergency medicine, trauma surgery and commercialization.

Our first priority is to get GOA26 to the hospitals, physicians, nurses and trauma centers confronting acute alcohol intoxication every day. From there, we envision new medicines and consumer formulations, like nasal sprays and subcutaneous injections, that can address the burden of alcohol before emergency medical intervention is ever needed.

Acute alcohol intoxication and poisoning is a serious and unresolved medical challenge. There is no FDA-approved pharmacologic therapy available today. Clinicians can stabilize airways, administer fluids, and monitor vital signs, but they cannot directly resolve the underlying intoxication.
As elevated blood alcohol levels persist, the effects of alcohol poisoning compound: respiratory compromise, aspiration, metabolic instability, and neurological impairment.
Today: no treatment, no plan, no time.
